Trust & Safety

The safest place to find your people.

KIN connects strangers who hope to become family. That takes trust, so safety is built into every part of KIN from day one. Here is exactly how we protect you.

Real peopleEvery member is age-checked. KIN+ members are ID-verified, with a badge you can see.
Your details stay privateNo exact locations. No phone numbers or emails passed around.
Humans watching outAI flags risks; trained people review them and act.

Six layers of protection

How KIN keeps you safe

1

Verified identity and age

KIN is for adults aged 18 and over only, and every member's age is checked. KIN+ members go further and confirm who they are with photo ID and a live selfie through a specialist UK verification partner.

  • Verified members get a badge on their profile
  • KIN+ members can choose to only see verified members
  • One person, one account
2

Real places, private locations

You choose your town from a Google Maps list, so locations are real. Other members only ever see your town and a rough distance, such as "Leeds, about 10 miles away". Never your address or exact position.

  • Sign-ups are checked to confirm members are in the UK
  • Sign-ups from VPNs or hidden locations get extra checks before they can join
3

Conversations stay on KIN

Phone numbers, email addresses, social media handles and links to other messaging apps are hidden automatically. That includes tricks like "name at gmail dot com" or numbers written out in words. Our reporting and blocking only work inside KIN, so keeping chats here keeps you protected.

  • New members can't share contact details or links at all for their first 30 days
  • Messaging only opens once both people accept a connection
4

Scam protection

The most common scam on connection apps is someone building trust and then asking for money. KIN watches for messages about bank transfers, gift cards, crypto, loans and "emergencies", and shows the other person a clear warning.

  • Nobody on KIN should ever ask you for money
  • Money requests are reviewed by our safety team
5

AI that supports, people who decide

Automated checks look for fake profiles, copied photos, spam and unsafe conversations. Anything flagged goes to a trained human moderator. AI helps us spot problems quickly; people make the final call.

6

You're in control

Block or report anyone in one tap, from their profile or from a chat. Choose who can see your profile, pause your account at any time, and delete it whenever you like.

Clear consequences

Breaking the rules has a cost

Most people never see these. They exist so everyone else can relax.

1. Nudge

Contact details hidden and a friendly reminder of how KIN works.

2. Warning

A formal warning on the account and limits on messaging.

3. Suspension

Account paused while our safety team reviews it.

4. Removal

Permanent ban. Scams, threats, sexual approaches or anything involving harm to others go straight here.
